Riggisalp Trail (SwitzerlandMobility 285)

Although located in the foothills of the Alps, the Riggisalp snowshoe tour gives you the feeling that you are travelling in high alpine regions. This is because the tour is framed by the two mighty Schwarzsee-Haus mountains: Kaiseregg and Spitzfluh.

The snowshoe tour starts at the Gypsera car park in Schwarzsee. Gypsera can also be reached by half-hourly bus connections from Tafers, Plaffeien and Fribourg. Away from the hustle and bustle of the ski slopes, hikers now climb up to the Riggisalp below the mighty Kaiseregg. The initially steep but wide hiking trail leads past alpine huts, across pastures and through the forest on a steady ascent. Soon a fantastic view opens up over the mostly frozen and snow-covered lake and the valley of Schwarzsee. the path is on the old mule track in the direction of the Euschelspass. This Fribourg mule track, also known as the "Rösti Pass", connects the village of Jaun in the south with Schwarzsee in the north. After the Unter Bödeli alp, the trail crosses another section of forest. The trail then leaves the wide path and leads without a path across the pasture, past the snow-covered alpine huts of Alp Mitzlere. The view of the two mighty Schwarzsee mountains, Kaiseregg and Spitzfluh, gives you the feeling that you are not travelling in the foothills of the Alps, but in a high alpine region. The highest point of the tour is soon reached at the top of the Riggisalp. Other peaks of the Fribourg Pre-Alps, the white summits of the Spitzfluh, the Chörblispitz and the Combifluh, also become visible.

Once at the top, at the mountain station of the Riggisalp chairlift, skiers and snowboarders are already waiting on the sun terrace of the restaurant. Here you can enjoy a typical Fribourg fondue moitié-moitié or another regional speciality. Once again, the marvellous view over the Schwarzsee valley and the surrounding mountain peaks is free of charge.

The comfortable two-seater chairlift takes you down into the valley. If you don't want to make the ascent, you can also simply take the chairlift up to the Riggisalp and hike down from there on snowshoes. This is another way to make the Riggisalp trail an experience, but with less physical effort.
